- Google has begun to notify advertisers that they will stop showing search queries that triggered their adverts where there is not “significant” data
- The search engine giant has not said what defines “significant” for them and has left many advertisers both confused and angry with the little communication around this announcement
- Digital agency Seer reported that 28% of all paid adverts will have search terms hidden from then, meaning that nearly 1/3 of all searches will be unknown to the advertisers
- Google have said the announcement is a way to protect users privacy. Despite the giant upsurge in ecommerce growth since the start of 2020, Google advert revenue has fallen sharply in the first two quarters of the year
