- Statistics by eMarketer show that ecommerce grew 20.7% in 2020, a total of CA$52.04 billion, making up 8.1% of all retail sales in Canada
- A reluctance to visit brick and mortar stores due to the pandemic and the convenience offered by online shopping propelled ecommerce to new heights. It is expected that in retail and food service, online sales will continue to dominate into 2021
- The statistics exceeded many forecasts at the beginning of last year and as such, ecommerce has been predicted to have higher growth then last year, with eMarketer estimating at 12.5% for 2021
