- The Seattle-based, ecommerce giant holds a massive share of both the U.S. and Canadian markets, averaging around 40% though seen as high as 74% in certain product ranges
- Amazon has enjoyed a very profitable 2020 so far, as the massive rise in ecommerce has seen the company expand rapidly, opening several new sites in Canada. Alongside this, Amazon owner Jeff Bezos has seen his own fortune grow substantially in the last few months
- This committee comes amidst an investigation and review into Amazon, Google and Facebook, looking at if they control too large a percentage of the sector, and to see if they engage in anti-competitive behaviour
